InfoFAQLicensingFonts

In late 2019, design hooligans Nick Losacco and Ciarán Brandin joined forces around a common goal: establish a type foundry that didn’t take itself too seriously, yet still provided quality type work. After a year of procrastinating, in 2021, we finally got our acts together and released Riptype. Although neither of us has formal training in type design, we believe that the best type of work comes from the heart. As such, Riptype stands as a manifestation of our passion for type, and we hope that passion is shown through our work.

Nick is a designer based in Montreal using Riptype as a sandbox for type experiments. He plays around with letters and curves until eventually he stumbles on a fun idea, then inevitably changes his mind and scraps the idea all together. In the end, the font he started looked nothing like his initial intentions, but that’s okay too.

Ciarán is a Brooklyn-based designer who finds great joy in experimenting with letterforms. At the end of the day, he works hard to deliver interesting and well-crafted type, despite an addiction to leaving fonts unfinished.

FAQ

How does Riptype licensing work?
Lucky for you, all you have to do is scroll down! We tried to make it as simple and straightforward as possible, but if you have any specific questions that aren't outlined in our Terms, please reach out to info@riptype.xyz.
Does Riptype offer trial typefaces?
Absolutely! Our trial-faces are full fonts in .OTF format, as we would rather you have access to the glyphs you need than needing to screen-shot our type and live-trace it in illustrator. In any case, we ask that you please respect the time and effort that we put into our fonts and purchase a full license if you like our type enough to use it in a commercial project.
Can I buy licenses on my clients' behalf?
In an ideal world, the client would purchase the correct license for the font in use. If this is too confusing for them or not possible in any way, you can buy the license and transfer it to the intended party, so long as we are informed of the final destination.
Does Riptype offer student deals?
For sure! Email us with a little bit about yourself and your project, and we will work something out.
How do I upgrade my license?
Send us an email with your receipt and the intended license you wish to upgrade to. Your previous license purchase will be credited towards the upgrade!
Can I get a refund for a purchased typeface?
We do not offer refunds, but please reach out if there are any issues with our fonts and we will do our best to resolve the problem.
I emailed you guys days ago, why haven't you responded?
While we try our best to respond to each and every email we get, it’s important to remember to disconnect sometimes. Please don’t hesitate to send a follow up if you haven't heard from us in a few days – we promise we will get back to you.
Where is Riptype anyway?
Riptype is based out of Montreal and Boston. We hope to (one day) be based out of a physical studio, but for the time being we are both working remotely from our respective cities.
Any plans for the future?
Follow us on instagram and maybe you’ll see a sneak peak of what we have in store ;)
